I have a sincere love and appreciation for the Academy Awards. My childhood was spent watching them year after year, every step of the way. From the Barbra Walters Oscars Special , to walking along the read carpet, and late into the evening when the Best Picture was finally announced. Every year like clock work, my family and the Fink family would order our take out and curl up in our pjs to begin our beloved Oscar evening. Even now, I am that person that looks forward to the day in mid January where I get to wake up and check the nominations. Then I spend the next month and a half trying to watch as many Oscar nominated movies as possible so I can form a semi educated opinion about these films. I cross my fingers as winners are announced and rejoice or cry along with whomever I was rooting for. Over the years we have been surprised, disappointed, seen amazing things achieved, and witnessed history being made.
There was something different about this year. Something so beautiful, so honest. I can often feel like these Actors who grace us on the big screen are not real. That they, like their characters that they portray are a work of fiction. But this year was a year when we laughed and cried, seeing the people they are, and not just the pretty faces we often see.

Remember when this happened, we felt like they were our best friends, and then collectively our country crashed twitter?
I spent the evening in awe. Not because of the beautiful gowns these women were wearing, or our favorite leading men all dressed up, but at how beautiful these people were, just being perfectly human! We saw Brad Pitt stuffing his face with pizza, the audience give Lupita Nyong'o a standing ovation as she accepted her award, Jared Leto be the cutest son we have ever seen, and actors, who were competing for the same awards take the best selfie of all time. We heard speech after speech of people admiring one another's work. We saw the love and appreciation between friends, and most importantly we saw these people having fun! This one enchanted evening of watching the most accomplished and well known Actors, Directors, Designers and the like come together was truly a sight to see. Like most of the world, I will never know these people, who they really are, good or bad, how they view the world, and what they know and feel on an individual basis. And thats okay. But it was a gift to be able to watch and enjoy them as we laughed and cried together. For at least one evening, full of humor, joy, and camaraderie, we saw these people living beautifully.
